Halloween CraftsHalloween is just around the corner, and parents, kids, and even teenagers are getting ready for this exciting event. Halloween parties and trick-or-treating are just two of the eagerly anticipated activities on Halloween. Businesses are cashing in on the hype by stocking up on Halloween costumes and even Halloween crafts. Both can easily be made at home, and all one needs are instructions and the necessary materials. Here are four fun Halloween crafts that anyone can make using materials found around the house.

1. Frankenstein Can

This cute Halloween item can serve as a candy or pencil holder. It is made from a tin can, felt, a chenille stem, and small round pom-poms or magnets. The tin can opening should be smooth; in case there are any sharp edges, one can remove these by sanding. Lay some green felt on the table and then roll the can on the felt to know how much is needed to cover the entire circumference of the can. There should be a half inch overlap for easy adjustments and a 1 inch overlap for both the top and bottom of the can. Fold the overlaps into the top and bottom of the can. Do the same process for the “hair”, and make sure that the felt only reaches 2 inches from the top of the can. Finally, cut the patterns for the eyes, eyebrows, and nose. The mouth is made from the chenille stem. Glue these in place. The two pom-poms can be placed on the side of the can to serve as the bolts.

2. Foam Bracelets

These are made out of fun foam and Velcro. There are different Halloween patterns available for free online. Print these out and trace the patterns onto the foam. Cut the foam and glue the pieces on a foam band which has positive and negative Velcro glued to the ends.

3. Scary Yard Sign

This can be placed outside and used as a Halloween decoration. The only materials used are a long stake and extra wood boards, plus some black paint. The older the wood looks the better, in order to get a haunted house feel. Paint spooky signs or phrases on the wood boards, such as “Enter if you dare” or “Beware the Boogeyman”. Nail or screw the wood boards onto the long stake and place it on the front yard.

4. Door Hangers

These are great as giveaways during Halloween parties, and it would take less than 10 minutes to make! Print out some Halloween patterns, trace these on some colored foam (usually orange, black, or white), and cut the pieces out. Finally, glue these pieces on a 9×3 inch rectangular piece of foam. The top of the foam should have a 2 and ¼ inch circle cut out.

Homemade Halloween crafts are a great way to save money on Halloween decorations and can even serve as party giveaways. There are hundreds of Halloween craft ideas online, or one can buy a book about making crafts for Halloween.
